My review of the Cyrus Haven Series
Michael Robotham has become one of my favorite authors in recent years, and his Cyrus Haven series is another example of why. The series consists of Good Girl, Bad Girl, When She Was Good, Lying Beside You, and Storm Child. The first book, Good Girl, Bad Girl, is by far my favorite and sets the stage for a compelling overarching storyline with unforgettable characters.

The series follows forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac, a troubled but remarkably perceptive young woman. Each book has a gripping mystery at its center, but for me, it’s the characters that really make this series stand out. Robotham creates flawed, believable, and deeply human characters that I found myself genuinely invested in. I wanted to unravel each mystery, but I was just as interested in seeing how the characters changed and evolved along the way.

Cyrus and Evie are both damaged in very different ways, and watching their complicated relationship evolve throughout the series was one of my favorite parts. Evie can be prickly, unpredictable, and frustrating, but she’s also intelligent, vulnerable, and impossible not to root for. Their unusual dynamic adds an emotional depth that sets these books apart from many psychological thrillers.

The mysteries are dark and sometimes disturbing, with plenty of twists and steadily building tension. Robotham manages to keep the suspense high without letting the plot overshadow the characters, and the psychological elements kept me guessing until the end.

I highly recommend the Cyrus Haven series. Robotham’s writing is smart, engaging, and filled with the kind of characters that stay with you after you’ve finished the book. While each novel focuses on its own crime and can technically be read as a standalone, it’s Cyrus and Evie’s evolving relationship that really makes the series special. I definitely recommend reading the books in order.
