Author: Robert Dugoni
Genre: Crime Thriller

Synopsis
Homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned to the police force after the sensational retrial of her sister’s killer. Still scarred from that ordeal, Tracy is pulled into an investigation that threatens to end her career, if not her life.
A serial killer known as the Cowboy is killing young women in cheap motels in North Seattle. Even after a stalker leaves a menacing message for Crosswhite, suggesting the killer or a copycat could be targeting her personally, she is charged with bringing the murderer to justice. With clues scarce and more victims dying, Tracy realizes the key to solving the murders may lie in a decade-old homicide investigation that others, including her captain, Johnny Nolasco, would prefer to keep buried. With the Cowboy on the hunt, can Tracy find the evidence to stop him, or will she become his next victim?
My review
Her Final Breath by Robert Dugoni is the second novel in the Tracy Crosswhite series. This installment is a strong continuation of the series, showcasing Dugoni’s top-notch writing and intricate details, which I’ve come to expect from this talented author. What keeps me engaged in a series is the overarching character development, consistent writing style, and complex narratives. Dugoni’s blend of fast-paced narrative and realistic dialogue made the case feel as if it was drawn straight from the headlines, adding a touch of reality. With numerous cliffhangers and twists that kept me guessing, Dugoni demonstrates his ability to craft a superior novel. So far, this series has delivered in spades!
This character-driven novel and series features Tracy Crosswhite, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite female leads in crime fiction. She is strong, intelligent, and driven by facts, unafraid to follow her instincts and determined to uncover the truth despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The pacing is spot-on, with short chapters and realistic dialogue that kept me engaged and immersed in the story. The ongoing sparring between Tracy and her unpleasant, insecure boss Nolesco adds a fun and surprising element to the narrative.
Her Final Breath is a gripping police procedural and excellent second installment in the series. Dugoni, a master of the genre, reveals just enough to heighten the tension without giving too much away. His legal expertise shines through, and his writing style, coupled with complex and believable storylines, makes this a standout novel among the many police procedurals available!
My recommendation: read it!
