Synopsis
For fans of The Silent Patient and Gone Girl, a razor-sharp and Hitchcock-inspired psychological thriller about two ordinary women who make a dangerous pact to take revenge for each other after being pushed to the brink.
One dark evening on New York City’s Upper West Side, two strangers meet by chance. Over drinks, Amanda and Wendy realize they have much in common, especially loneliness and an intense desire for revenge against the men who destroyed their families. As they talk into the night, they come up with the perfect if you kill for me, I’ll kill for you.
In another part of the city, Ruth is home alone when the beautiful brownstone she shares with her husband, Scott, is invaded. She’s attacked by a man with piercing blue eyes, who disappears into the night. Will she ever be able to feel safe again while the blue-eyed stranger is out there?
Intricate, heart-racing, and from an author who “is the real deal” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author), Kill for Me, Kill for You will keep you breathless until the final page.
My review
Kill For Me, Kill For You by Steve Cavanagh is a rollercoaster ride of a book! This psychological thriller starts strong and never lets up. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the story, but I was captivated from the beginning and couldn’t put this book down. I easily finished it in a day.
This was such a fascinating, crazy story, and I’m impressed with Cavanagh’s imagination and ability to keep the plot moving at breakneck speed while providing enough detail to flesh out his characters. This novel is told from multiple POVs and I especially liked the chapters told from the detectives’ perspectives.
I believe this story works exceptionally well because it is not only brilliantly plotted but also masterfully constructed to maximize suspense and enjoyment. I read psychological thrillers purely for entertainment, and this one did not disappoint. Although I’m rarely surprised by twists, this book had a few unexpected turns. While the plot isn’t totally original, Cavanagh’s writing style creates tension and suspense, offering enough variation that it feels fresh and unique.
Overall, Kill For Me, Kill For You was a great reading experience. There were some eyebrow-raising coincidences, but keep in mind this isn’t dark, gritty, realistic crime fiction. If you can suspend disbelief, then this is a thoroughly entertaining, twisty thrill ride and one that can easily be read in a day!
My recommendation: read it!
