Synopsis
The Doll’s House by M.J. Arlidge is the 3rd novel in the DI Helen Grace series. A young woman wakes up in a cold, dark cellar, with no idea how she got there or who her kidnapper is. So begins her terrible nightmare.
Nearby, the body of another young woman is discovered buried on a remote beach. But the dead girl was never reported missing – her estranged family having received regular texts from her over the years. Someone has been keeping her alive from beyond the grave.
For Detective Inspector Helen Grace it’s chilling evidence that she’s searching for a monster who is not just twisted but also clever and resourceful – a predator who’s killed before.
And as Grace struggles to understand the killer’s motivation, she begins to realise that she’s in a desperate race against time . . .
My review
The Doll’s House by M.J. Arlidge is the 3rd book in the Helen Grace series. Arlidge is a masterful storyteller his intricate plot kept me guessing until almost the end. What I like most about Arlidge’s writing style is that it is concise and to the point, and he uses short chapters and snappy dialogue to maintain a brisk pace and build tension effectively.
Arlidge continues to skillfully develop Grace’s character, and she is becoming one of my favorite British Crime inspectors. Grace is a complex and compelling protagonist, haunted by her past and driven by her relentless pursuit of justice. Her interactions with the other characters, particularly her colleague DS Charlie Brooks, add depth and emotional resonance to the story.
The Doll’s House is a gripping and immersive thriller that held me captive from start to finish. Arlidge’s masterful storytelling weaves a web of suspense and intrigue, and drew me into a dark and twisted world where nothing was as it seems. I’m excited to read the next installment in the series, Liar Liar.
My recommendation: read it!
