My review
Perfect Silence by Helen Fields continues the gripping DI Callanach series with another chilling and intense installment that left me thoroughly engrossed. The plot of Perfect Silence is dark, complex, and utterly compelling. From the opening pages, the tension is palpable as Callanach and DCI Ava Turner are thrust into a harrowing investigation into a series of brutal murders. The pacing is relentless, with each twist and turn propelling the story forward at breakneck speed. I found myself completely absorbed in the hunt for the sadistic killer, eagerly trying to piece together the clues alongside Callanach and Turner. The stakes feel higher than ever, and the sense of danger is ever-present, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the final page.
Once again, Helen Fields excels at crafting complex and multifaceted characters that feel utterly real. Callanach continues to be a fascinating protagonist, grappling with his own inner demons while striving to bring justice to the victims. His relationship with Turner is further explored in this installment, adding layers of depth and complexity to both characters. I appreciated the growth and development of the supporting cast as well, each with their own quirks and motivations that added richness to the story.
As I expect from Fields’ writing, Perfect Silence is a masterfully crafted and complex thriller that delivers on all fronts. With its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and atmospheric setting, it is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and British crime fiction. Helen Fields continues to prove herself as a formidable storyteller, and I eagerly anticipate the next installment in the DI Callanach series.
My recommendation: read it!
