Synopsis
Perfect Death by Helen Fields is the third installment in the DI Callanach series, where DI Luc Callanach faces a new and complex case involving a series of murders in Edinburgh, Scotland. Unknown to DI Luc Callanach and the newly promoted DCI Ava Turner, a serial killer has Edinburgh firmly in his grip. The killer is taking his victims in the coldest, most calculating way possible – engineering slow and painful deaths by poison, with his victims entirely unaware of the drugs flooding their bloodstream until it’s too late.
But how do you catch a killer who hides in the shadows? A killer whose pleasure comes from watching pain from afar? Faced with their most difficult case yet, Callanach and Turner soon realise they face a seemingly impossible task…
Perfect Death is a riveting thriller that delivers on all fronts. With its intricate plot, well-drawn characters, and chilling atmosphere, it is a must-read for fans of the genre. Helen Fields once again proves herself to be a master storyteller, and I eagerly await the next installment in the DI Callanach series.
My review
After reading the first book in the DI Callanach series, I was hooked and read the rest of the series without stopping. Perfect Death by Helen Fields is another gripping and intense addition to the DI Callanach series that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. The author once again demonstrates her skill at crafting a complex and compelling plot, filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end.
One of the aspects of the book that I found particularly engaging was the continued development of Callanach’s character. In Perfect Death, we see him facing new challenges and confronting his own past in a way that adds depth and complexity to his character. His relationship with newly promoted Turner also continues to evolve, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the story.
The plot of Perfect Death is fast-paced and full of suspense, with each new development ratcheting up the tension. The killer’s methods are chillingly detailed, adding to the sense of dread and danger that permeates the story. I found myself completely engrossed in the investigation, eager to unravel the mystery alongside Callanach and Turner. One of the things I appreciate most about Helen Fields’ writing is her ability to create vivid and atmospheric settings. Edinburgh comes alive in Perfect Death, with its dark streets and looming shadows adding to the overall sense of unease.
Helen Fields’ writing is atmospheric and evocative, bringing the streets of Edinburgh to life with vivid descriptions and a keen eye for detail. Her prose is sharp and compelling and always draws me in from the very first page. Most importantly, the unexpected twists keep me engaged until the very last page. The dialogue is crisp and realistic, adding depth to the characters and moving the story forward at a brisk pace.
My recommendation: read it!
