My review
Wow! One for Sorrow by Helen Fields is the latest book published in the DI Callanach series and it far exceeded my expectations. Fields excels at crafting haunting and emotionally resonant crime fiction and this one was masterful. It is an utterly gripping read and one that will stay with me for a long time.
Fields continues ratcheting up the tension and suspense. The pacing in One for Sorrow is explosive and I couldn’t put it down until the very last page, desperate to know how it all unfolds.
In One for Sorrow, and throughout the entire series, Fields has proven herself a clever and masterful storyteller capable of creating a chilling and haunting atmosphere with complex, intricate, and compelling stories. From the first page, it gripped me with its relentless pace, leaving me breathless as the tension and suspense mounted with each chapter. Every twist and turn in the plot was expertly crafted, and the ending was thrilling, devastating and emotional. One for Sorrow ends on a cliffhanger and I hope that Fields decides to write the another book in the series.
My recommendation: read it! It is a masterful novel and can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the first six books in the series. Fields has set the bar high.
