Synopsis
His & Hers by Alice Feeney is a gripping psychological thriller that tells the story of two intertwined murders from the perspectives of two narrators: Anna Andrews, a news anchor, and Jack Harper, a detective.
The story begins with the murder of a woman named Rachel, whose body is found in a small English village. Andrews, who grew up in the village, is sent to report on the case, bringing her back into contact with her estranged mother and the memories of her troubled past.
At the same time, Harper is assigned to investigate the murder, which bears similarities to a case he worked on years ago. As Harper delves deeper into the investigation, he discovers that the two cases may be linked, and that someone is targeting people from his past.
As Andrews and Harper each uncover clues and follow leads, they are forced to confront their own demons and the secrets they’ve been keeping. Andrews struggles with her past traumas and her complicated relationship with her mother, while Harper grapples with the guilt and regret of his past actions.
As the narrative unfolds, Feeney skillfully weaves together two storylines, building suspense and tension with each chapter. The novel keeps readers guessing until the very end, with twists and turns that will leave them shocked and breathless.
Overall, His & Hers is a riveting thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre. With its complex characters, gripping plot, and atmospheric setting, it’s a compelling read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page.
My review
His & Hers by Alice Feeney is a thrilling psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the very first page. The dual perspectives of Anna Andrews, a news anchor, and Jack Harper, a detective, add layers of depth to the story and keep the suspense at an all-time high.
Feeney’s storytelling is solid, with twists and turns that I never saw coming. The way she weaves together the two murders and the lives of the characters is both intricate and seamless, creating a compelling narrative that kept me guessing until the very end.
Feeney provides sufficient depth to the characters to make them relatable and interesting, without slowing down the pace of the plot. Andrews, a news anchor grappling with personal demons and a turbulent past, is a complex and relatable protagonist whose vulnerabilities add depth to the narrative. On the other hand, Harper, a detective haunted by his own past mistakes and secrets, brings a gritty realism to the investigation that kept me invested in his journey.
The pacing is almost perfect and as the story unfolds, the tension steadily builds, fueled by the growing sense of unease and dread that’s felt on every page. Feeney’s writing style is straight forward and her atmospheric descriptions vividly brought the small English village setting to life, immersing me in its eerie and claustrophobic atmosphere.
His & Hers is an engaging and immersive thriller that delivers on all fronts. With its compelling characters, cleverly constructed plot, and atmospheric setting, it’s a must-read for fans of lighter psychological suspense. This is another book that provides a perfect distraction while traveling or on vacation as you’ll easily be drawn into the story.
My recommendation: read it!
