My review
The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven is a gripping and chilling crime thriller that hooked me from the first page. Set in the atmospheric backdrop of the Lake District, the novel follows Detective Sergeant Washington Poe as he investigates a series of gruesome murders that shock the tight-knit community.
One of the standout features of the book is its protagonist, Washington Poe. He is a complex and compelling character, with a troubled past and a strong sense of justice. Despite his gruff exterior, I couldn’t help but root for Poe, especially as he teams up with the socially awkward but brilliant Tilly Bradshaw to solve the case.
The plot of The Puppet Show is intricately woven, with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. Craven does an excellent job of building suspense and tension, gradually revealing clues and connections that lead to a shocking conclusion.
Another strength of the novel is Craven’s ability to create a haunting and chilling setting, which I thought added to the sense of isolation and danger that permeates the narrative.
Overall, The Puppet Show is a standout thriller that delivers on all fronts. I was immediately captivated by the richly developed characters, gripping plot, and atmospheric setting. M.W. Craven is a masterful storyteller and quickly became one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series – Black Summer.
My recommendation: read it!
