Synopsis
Nemesis by Jo Nesbø follows Inspector Harry Hole as he investigates a series of bank robberies that escalate into a murder case. The story begins with a bank robbery gone wrong, resulting in the death of a female cashier. After a drunken evening with former girlfriend Anna Bethsen, Hole wakes up at home with a headache, no cell phone, and no memory of the past twelve hours. The same day, Anna is found shot dead in her bedroom, making Hole a prime suspect in the investigation led by his hated adversary, Tom Waaler.
As Hole unravels the complex web of deceit surrounding the case, he is drawn into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Waaler, who seems to always be one step ahead. Along the way, Harry faces personal demons, including his struggle with alcoholism and his complicated relationship with his ex-girlfriend Rakel.
As the investigation progresses, Hole uncovers a shocking truth leading to a final showdown that will test his resolve and push him to the brink. With its intricate plot, compelling characters, and unexpected twists, Nemesis is a riveting thriller that keeps readers guessing until the very end.
My review
This is the 4th book in the Harry Hole series. Nemesis by Jo Nesbø is a gripping and multilayered thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Nesbø’s writing style is engaging, and he does an excellent job of creating a dark and atmospheric setting that adds to the tension of the story.
One of the things I loved most about Nemesis is the complexity of the characters, especially Inspector Harry Hole. Hole is a flawed and deeply troubled protagonist, but his dedication to solving the case and his determination to seek justice make him a compelling character to follow.
The plot of Nemesis is intricately woven, with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The pacing is superb, and there are enough action-packed scenes to satisfy any thriller fan. I’m usually drawn to books in a series so I can get to know characters over a longer period of time. The Harry Hole series and this installment, Nemesis, is a fantastic read that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a thrilling and suspenseful novel.
My recommendation: read it!
