#1 Favorite Series – The Cartel Trilogy by Don Winslow is an intelligent and extraordinary collection of crime fiction that chronicles the War on Drugs told primarily through the perspective of DEA agent Art Keller. The scope and scale of Winslow’s shattering tale of vengeance, violence, corruption, and justice is immense and these books are absolutely not light reading. With each book coming in at over 600 pages and a storyline spanning 40 years, both the themes and content are dark, brutal, powerful and thought-provoking. Winslow’s stark realism perfectly balances meticulous detail and research, sensitivity to character, and superb structure – the stories and events will stay with me for a long time. This series is a rare gem and without a doubt my favorite crime fiction series.
